Hill arrived late to the show and performed for approximately 30 minutesbefore her microphone was reportedly cut off.
Fans in attendance expressed their disappointment after the show which caused a storm of social media derision aimed at the former Fugee.
"Looking for entertainment in Atlanta tonight? Think how many books you could have bought for the price of those Lauryn Hill tickets," tweeted Matt Handle.
Hill came to her defense in a Facebook post that receivedover one thousand shares.
"I don't show up late to shows because I don't care," stated Hill. "And I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans. The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn't easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others. I don't have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible."
Many, however, were not buying the reasons for the tardiness by Hill, including New York City radio DJ, Charlamagne tha god.
"That is the most entitled, bougie, wordy excuse for being late I have ever heard in my life," remarked Charlamagne. "This is the excuse of someone with entitlement mentality. Like I told you all yesterday, service and gratitude will fuel your relationships, entitlement and expectations will poison them. Lauryn showing up late and then giving excuses like your energy was not aligned with the time is just lazy."
