The announcement came on Mar. 10, 2016. The body of Lesin was found in his DuPont Circle hotel room on Nov. 5, 2015.
Lesin suffered many long term illnesses and family members believed that he had died of heart complications.At the time, RIA Novosti, the Russian state news, reported that Lesin had died of a heart attack.
Recently, however, the medical examiner's office reported that in addition to the head injuries, Lesin also had injuries to his neck torso, and upper and lower extremities. There has been no conclusion as to whether the death of Lesin was criminal, accidental, or otherwise.
"We're not willing to close off anything at this point," explained Dustin Sternbeck, chief spokesperson of the Washington, D.C. Police Department.
Russia has warned that it will officially request to cooperate in the investigation if it is not satisfied with the work of the United States of America in the case of its fallen son.
"The Russian Embassy in the United States has repeatedly sent a request through diplomatic channels about the investigation into the death of a Russian citizen," inveighedRussian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, in a Facebook post. "The U.S. side has not provided us with any substantive information. We are waiting for clarification from Washington and the relevant official details on the progress of the investigation."
