Genetics of first farmers shows that they were from diverse cultures

Scientists initially thought that the idea of agriculture originated from one community and others simply adopted it.

Farming is often defined as the moment that humanity ensured their survival. It started around 10, 000 years ago in Asia. Before this, all civilizations were hunters and gathers relying on the environment to survive. But, with farming, humanity ensured that they had some control on their survival.

Scientists initially thought that the idea of agriculture originated from one community and others simply adopted it. However, DNA studies of people living in the Fertile Crescent along the Nile the place where Agriculture is believed to originate from.

The people living in this area were divided into the Easter n and Western communities. What scientists found interesting is that the communities' genetic makeup was quite diverse, suggesting that they did not come into contact with each other for quite a while.

"Probably the biggest surprise news about this study is just how genetically different the eastern and western Fertile Crescent early farmers were," said co-author of Journal Science Mark Thomas. He went further and used domestication as a way of explaining this theory further. "From the archaeology, we know that different species were domesticated in various locations around the Fertile Crescent with no particular center."

He explains that it did not take man many cattle to demystify the whole species but less than 100 animals. He uses the same concept to describe farming. That perhaps only a few in the population practiced it, and it spread out quite rapidly. But all the same, they did agree that farming was one of the building blocks that has given humanity active adaptive features.
