Forget Yelp – Google now connects users directly with services

People looking for a plumber or repairman have a number of tools at their disposal, from the yellow pages to online review websites like Yelp and Angie’s List. According to a report from Gizmodo, however, tech giant Google has just announced that they will begin rolling out a search feature that lists qualified home service providers in your area.

The new search function is designed to best identify your problem and help you find a solution. For example, if you were to search for the term “broken water main,” the new function will display the names, reviews, and numbers of available plumbers in the area.

The service is a part of Google’s AdWords Express program, which allows qualified service people to pay Google for a higher ranking in search results. The paid advertisements will be tailored specifically to your search terms to help show you the best options.

The feature is designed to bring you to the service you need in as few clicks as possible. The new feature is a clear move against Amazon, whose innovative technologies and business models are making it easier than ever to acquire just about anything you may want directly from your computer.

Users in San Francisco and the Bay area have been testing the ad service for a few weeks, but users can expect to see new tailored search results showing up soon.
