Google Assistant devices, including Android phones and Wear devices, are now fully supported for voice-control of the Nest Secure alarm systems.

The long-awaited integration has occurred subsequent to the second acquisition of Nest Secure by Google. Known for its thermostats and user-friendly security cameras, Alphabet acquired Nest for $3.2 billion.

During this phase in success, Nest founder and Chief Product Officer Matt Rogers confirmed that the company’s privacy policy “clearly limits the use of customer information to providing and improving Nest’s products and services”. As the company expanded in products and employees, Google recaptured the security business, revolving Nest into a smart home ecosystem. Google assistant has progressively positioned its functions into Nest products, such as the Nest Cam IQ.

However, the recent integration with the Nest Secure alarm system provides limited functionality, lacking the two-way audio. Disarming the PIN security function is required in order to enable the Google Assistant. The system can only be disarmed by voice if it was armed through voice control initially.

Optimistically, the technology advancement of the Nest Secure alarm system allows owners to verbally communicate with Google Assistant remotely, monitoring the status of their home and arming the system with space to improve functionality.
