During the Google I/O 2018 developer’s conference, an announcement revealed the Google Lens will now be available directly in the camera app on supported devices from LGE, Motorola, Xiaomi, Sony Mobile, HMD/Nokia, Transsion, TCL, OnePlus, BQ, Asus, and notably the Google Pixel.
The multi-national technology company announced three Google Lens updates, demonstrating artificial intelligence (AI) as a defining theme projected for the future of it developer and consumer engineering approach.
Smart Text selection connects the viewable words with the answers and actions users necessitate. Users can copy and paste text from the real world, such as recipes, gift card codes, or Wi-Fi passwords, directly to a smartphone. Lens helps consumers understand a page of words by displaying relevant information and photos. The app will be required to recognize shapes of letters, in addition to the meaning and context of the words.
With Style Match, users can open Lens and obtain information on specific items, in addition to viewing items in a similar style or design.
Lens now works in real-time, proactively surfacing information instantly, while anchoring the user’s items. With the update, users will be able to browse without limits by pointing the camera.
Google Inc. attributes the success of these Lens feature updates to the numerous years of language understanding in Search help, state-of-the-art machine learning, using both on-device intelligence and cloud TPUs, to identify billions of words, phrases, places, and things in a split second.
